What's up at Kumon of Redmond Ridge?
Thanksgiving
Just a reminder, we will be closed for Thanksgiving break on Wednesday, November 26th. Happy Thanksgiving!
Vacations
If you are going to be absent for a class and will need extra work for the break, we ask that you inform us at least 24 hours in advance of your last class. We can then have your extra work available for you to take with you. Thankyou!
Flashcard CDs
If your child is enrolled in the Junior Kumon reading program, we do have flashcards available in CD format, in addion to the traditional format. If you have not received a CD, please speak to Kavitha when you're next in the Center.
Toy recycling
Just a reminder that if you would like to recycle some of the prizes that your children receive here at the center, you are welcome to do so. You may exchange 10 small prizes for a $5 gift card. We usually have Target, Borders, Jamba Juice and Starbucks on hand. Surreptitious exchange of a brown bag for a Starbucks card is definitely an option! We do ask that you only return prizes that you received here at the center, thanks.
Home grading
Home grading is a great way to help your children progress through the KUMON Program as quickly as possible. Having assignments graded at home allows students to make their corrections nightly. Children can then learn from their mistakes as they progress. This means that they make fewer mistakes, which means less repetition, which leads to faster progress. This is important for the math program but even more so for the reading. For example, spelling errors must be fixed in order for children to spell these words correctly in the future. We do require all reading assignments that are not corrected at home to be completely corrected in class, so the children can learn as much as possible from each set.
Home grading is also a great way to become involved in your child’s KUMON studies. You will have a much better idea when your child is finding things easy or hard, and be able to provide encouragement accordingly. Please remind your children that making and correcting mistakes is a normal part of the learning process. If we didn’t allow ourselves to make mistakes, we would miss so many learning opportunities!
We hope you will check back frequently to see what's new at Kumon of Redmond Ridge.
